About The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun

Inspiring children to be more healthy and active through well organised running events

The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun  is an international campaign, set up to inspire children to be more active through fun short-distance running events. It has been a phenomenal success so far with over 350,000 children having taken part since 2013.

Running is simple, and children do it naturally. It’s fun, good for their confidence and great for their health and development.

It’s not expensive, and is the basis for so many other sports. If kids catch the bug early enough they tend to stick with it and this leads to a more active and healthy lifestyle.

Our well organised running events encourage children to prepare themselves for the challenge of completing a 2km fun run, to give it their best on the day and to make their run a memorable achievement.

International Reach

The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun events currently take place in Belgium, Netherlands, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Spain, UK and USA – and we are still growing!

Why is The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun campaign so important?

The Global World Health Organisation (WHO) regards childhood obesity as one of the most serious global public health challenges of the 21st century. Obese children and adolescents are at an increased risk of developing various health problems, and are more likely to become obese adults.

There are 3.5million children in the UK aged between 5 and 9 years old. Across the UK and all age groups the overall activity levels are falling.

Almost a fifth of 4-5 year olds and a third of 10-11 year olds are overweight or obese, (The national Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) 2012/13).

Four out of five boys and girls aged 5-15 have less than 60 minutes of physical activity a day.

For very young children ages 2-4 it is even worse, with 9 out of 10 getting less than 60 mins of physical activity.

The Daily Mile GO Run For Fun campaign is facilitating change. It is successfully promoting an increase in physical activity in children, as well as demonstrating the fun that can be found in exercise.
