1,300 CHILDREN JOIN GB SPRINTING STAR IN NORTHWICH FUN RUN

1,300 CHILDREN JOIN GB SPRINTING STAR IN NORTHWICH FUN RUN
CHILDREN from 17 schools around Northwich took part in a two kilometre run organised by running initiative GO Run For Fun on Tuesday 23 October at Moss Farm Leisure Complex organised in partnership with Royal Vale SSP.

1,300 primary school children aged between five and 11 participated in the event with ‘the next Usain Bolt’, British sprinter Reece Prescod, who joined in, took part in a Q&A, and cheered the runners across the finish line.

When speaking about the event, Reece said: “I believe in passing on the excitement and health aspects of my sport to younger people. With the health and diet issues facing so many these days it is important to emphasise that if you exercise regularly then food intake can be easier. Diet and exercise go hand in hand.

Reece continued with some advice for young children: “Definitely do what you enjoy and make it fun. Exercising with a group of friends really helps. Exercise doesn’t have to be a punishment or something you “have” to do. Just make it a part of your life. Walk upstairs, get off the bus one stop before your usual one and walk, that kind of stuff. It all adds up!”

The GO Run For Fun programme is supported by INEOS, a multinational company headquartered in London, with health and fitness at the heart of its ethos. Volunteers from the Northwich INEOS site supported the event.

INEOS Chairman and CEO, Jim Ratcliffe, is deeply passionate about running. He said: “It has never been more important to support young people in leading healthier, more active lives.

“GO Run for Fun and The Daily Mile have been making a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of children in the UK and beyond for the last four years. We are very proud to support these two initiatives and everyone who runs in them.”
