500 PORTSMOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN RUN 2KM

RUNNING initiative GO Run For Fun welcomed local children from Portsmouth Cockleshells Gardens on Thursday 18 October to take part in a 2 kilometre fun run.

Working in partnership with Portsmouth Schools Sports Partnership, over 500 primary school children aged between 5 and 11 years old took part in the event.

Youth event executive, Tom O’Brien, said: “We’re really excited to be bring GO Run For Fun back to Portsmouth. Over the five years that Go Run For Fun has been visiting locations we’ve had over 275,000 runners from 10 different countries across the world.

We feel that its important for kids to be active but have fun as well. With child obesity becoming a bigger problem nationwide we try to emphasis the fun side to exercising, that’s why our events are not timed, and children can run, jog or walk the 2KM route.

All schools will also receive our health and wellbeing resources, which consist of 6 different missions that the students can do themselves without the help of teacher to help them lead healthier lifestyles.”

GO Run For Fun, which is part of the Great Run series, has seen over 275,000 runners take part in its events in total and is on its way to getting 55,000 children running in the UK this year.

The programme is supported by INEOS, a multinational company headquartered in London, with health and fitness at the heart of its ethos.

INEOS Chairman and CEO, Jim Ratcliffe, is deeply passionate about running. He said: “It has never been more important to support young people in leading healthier, more active lives.

“GO Run for Fun and The Daily Mile have been making a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of hundreds of thousands of children in the UK and beyond for the last four years. We are very proud to support these two initiatives and everyone who runs in them.”
