1,000 PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN RUN 2KM IN HALTON EVENT

RUNNING initiative GO Run For Fun welcomed local children from Halton to Victoria Park on Thursday 7 June to take part in a 2 kilometre run and learn about living a healthy and active lifestyle.

Working in partnership with Active Halton, part of Halton Borough Council, the mass-running event saw 1,000 primary school children aged between 5 and 11 years old tackle the route at the urban park in Widnes, Cheshire.

Great British track and field athlete Jazmin Sawyers backed the event after recently competing in the Great City Games in Manchester.

Speaking about what attracted her to the event, Jazmin said: “Anything to do with encouraging kids to get into sport, I’m into! I know how much sport did for me growing up and if I can help more children to be active and regularly involved in physical activity, I know it’ll be to their benefit!”

Jazmin also added some advice for young children on staying active: “Find something you enjoy – try new things until you find one that makes you smile, you’re much more likely to stay active if you’re looking forward to the activity!”

GO Run For Fun, which is part of the Great Run series, hit their 240,000th runner at their Halton event on Thursday and aim to get 55,000 children running in 2018 through organising 25 mass running events across the UK.

The programme is supported by INEOS, a multinational company headquartered in London, with health and fitness at the heart of its ethos.

INEOS Chairman, Jim Ratcliffe, is deeply passionate about running. He said: “It has never been more important to support young people in leading healthier, more active lives.

“GO Run for Fun and The Daily Mile have been making a positive impact on the health and well-being of hundreds of thousands of children in the UK and beyond for the last four years. We are very proud to support these two initiatives and everyone who runs in them.”

GO Run For Fun organises free running events across the world to inspire children to be more active. To find out more about GO Run For Fun, visit www.thedailymileevents.com or stay up to date and find pictures from the event on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
